Ridge Vineyards, the producer of Monte Bello – the cabernet that stormed the scene at the Judgement of Paris in the 1970’s – is going strong today. Paul Draper is the CEO and chief winemaker at Ridge. He was recently awarded the “Winemakers’ Winemaker” award from the Institute of Masters of Wine (a pretty big freaking deal).
Jay MacInerney of the Wall Street Journal just wrote a really nice article on Ridge Vineyards and Mr. Draper as well. It covers the history of Ridge, and their excellent selection of wines. Check it out. And definitely try to Ridge wines.
