Pope? There’s a new pope? Does he need some wine perhaps? Or maybe Pope Emeritus Benedict is thirsty now that he’s retired. A California wine shop received a phone call this week from someone believed to be from the Vatican searching for a specific Papale primitivo wine (that’s the name on the label, it’s not certified by the pope or anything) – 115 bottles, to be exact. Oh, and ship those bad boys to Italy, please. Clink the link for the full stories.

And just so this post isn’t all Unsolved Mysteries, you might be wondering what primitivo is. Primitivo is a grape that, until recent DNA testing, was thought to be its own type of grape. Turns out , it’s genetically the same as the American native, zinfandel. Thanks, science.
