Pope? There’s a new pope? Does he need some wine perhaps? Or maybe Pope Emeritus Benedict is thirsty now that he’s retired. A California wine shop received a phone call this week from someone believed to be from the Vatican searching for a specific Papale primitivo wine (that’s the name on the label, it’s not certified by the pope or anything) – 115 bottles, to be exact. Oh, and ship those bad boys to Italy, please. Clink the link for the full stories.
I must know more about this! Fascinating.
And just so this post isn’t all Unsolved Mysteries, you might be wondering what primitivo is. Primitivo is a grape that, until recent DNA testing, was thought to be its own type of grape. Turns out , it’s genetically the same as the American native, zinfandel. Thanks, science.
