The cooler weather is slowly creeping up on us. It’s time to grab a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc while you can still enjoy it to cool down with on the porch. Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect, crisp white for a hot day.
Not sweet, the wine is acidic (crisp) enough to cut through the heat and can go with almost any meal. If you like white, and cheat the typical rules of wine and food pairing, it’s a go-to for you. Sauvignon Blanc is my own go-to for any situation in which I’m looking for a white. There’s no risk of it being over-oaked and tasting like a two-by-four. It’s never put into barrels, so it’s one of the most unadulterated, natural wines you can find.
New Zealand is an excellent producer of SB’s. Look for these to typically taste grapefruity and with hints of grass (and I mean that in a good way). SB’s from California will show more flavors of citrus all around. Both are great. Get one of each and see for yourself, while it’s hot.
