July 4th is almost here. I know you’re sitting at your desk now, just dying for this long weekend to arrive. I can almost smell the bar-b-que now. We’re smoking a pork butt for homemade BBQ, by the way. Go ahead and be jealous.
But what to drink? July 4th throws a lot of curve balls at you. Many different foods, hot weather, you name it. But let’s be really honest here. You’re just looking for something that’ll give you a good buzz. Oh yeah, and if it’s cold, that would help too.
If you’re interested in a real, honest-to-goodness, refreshing wine pairing for the 4th, skip to the last paragraph. Otherwise, let’s get down to business.
Wine Coolers. Yes. I said it. Don’t even scoff! You all love them, but won’t admit it. Come on, imagine sitting by the pool, in the sun, sweating. You KNOW you want a wine cooler! Kelli brought this up and I scoffed at first too, but now I’m convinced.
So many flavors! And yet, there’s no decision to be made. Just close your eyes and pick one…they all kinda taste the same anyway. They go with everything. They always seem to be red, white, or blue so you’ll just look extra patriotic when everyone is jealously eyeing your drink. They’re COLD. And they’ll give you that all-important buzz.
Bring back the wine cooler! Once you have two or three, I promise you won’t regret it.
Wine suggestions: For those of you who wish to still have an actual wine, here you go.
- Whites: Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, or from California if you want it a bit more citrusy. Don’t forget sparkling wines too! Cold and bubbly.
- Reds: Shiraz/Syrah will stand up well to grilled foods. Pinot Noir is a somewhat lighter red that will go well with bbq and you can even chill it slightly…don’t be afraid to.
- Sangria: Easy to make, fruity, cold.
